Lynn has graciously adjusted his schedule to be with and open
the Stellar Literary Festival.
Thank you Lynn! He will give brief talk and
address the obstacles he faced and dealt with
when writing his Camp X book. Lynn will be available
to sign any of his books till 11:45 a.m.
The rest of the day, Lynn is schedule for
Camp X Tours and at
Camp X Museum.

Lynn Philip Hodgson has dedicated half
of his life to uncovering the most detailed secrets of
Camp-X.
On March 7th 2005, Lynn won the "Lifetime Achievement Award"
for 2004. This award is issued by the Ontario Heritage
Foundation and reads as follows:

Michael Khashmanian has recently
rekindled his love of writing over the past year
completing a few short stories and poems. He has written the
lyrics for five songs, one of
which was performed by 'Rising' at St. Mark's United Church in
Dec. He has just completed the play "Dial 'M' for Music" which
was performed on Feb.2 2006.
He has written & directed and acted in May 2007, a comedy play
Where's the Minister?
with great reviews. Currently he is directing a play plus is
an actor in another one.

John B. Lee
John B. Lee is the recipient of over 60 prestigious
international awards in poetry. The most recent of his nearly
50 published books include How Beautiful We Are, winner of the
2006 Orion Souwesto Award; and Godspeed.
Both books were published in 2006 by Black Moss Press. He was
recently named winner of the Winston Collins Best Canadian
Poem Award (Descant magazine). He lives with his wife Cathy in
Brantford where he was named Poet Laureate of Brantford in
perpetuity in 2005. His work has been translated into Spanish,
Korean, French and Chinese.
His poetry, which has appeared in over 500 publications, has
earned Lee many grants and awards, most significant of which
have been the CBC Tilden Award and the People’s Poetry Award
(twice). He has also written children’s books, plays, short
stories, reviews, a writer’s guide, and memoirs, and has
edited numerous anthologies of poetry, including Smaller than
God. In addition to writing and editing, Lee was
writer-in-residence at Kitchener Public Library in 2001 and
has given many public readings of his work and facilitated
poetry workshops for school children.
In the winter of 2007, he participated in CCLA events
organized and hosted in Havana, Cuba. Twice featured in The
Ambassador, his work has appeared internationally in over 500
publications. |

Allan Briesmaster
Allan is, among other things, a
freelance editor, a readings organizer, and a partner in
Quattro Books publishers (www.quattrobooks.ca).
He also has his own micro press, Aeolus House (www.aeolushouse.com).
His poems have appeared in many journals and anthologies, and
he has read his work to audiences from Halifax to Victoria. He
lives in Thornhill ON.
His ninth collection of poetry,
Interstellar, which came out this Spring, reflects
his ongoing interests in environmental matters, the impact of
media and the arts, and a lifelong fascination with science –
especially astronomy and cosmology. |

Honey is a singer/songwriter/voice teacher/poet who lives in

finds both humbling and dizzying.

He is an editor and publisher and runs a growing
publishing company called
Hidden Brook Press from
which he publishes poetry contest anthologies and books
of every genre for authors around the world.
Richard is the founder of the
Canadian Poet Registry.
He was an active member of the Canadian Poetry
Association for ten years serving on the executive for
seven years including five as President. He is the
founding president of both the CCLA (2004) –
Canada Cuba Literary Alliance
- CCLA Federation of Photographers (2006). He is
the founding president of the Brighton Arts Council and
the co-founder of the Purdy Country Literary Festival &
CCLA Art & Lit Fest.

The Oshawa Branch of TOPS (The Ontario
Poetry Society)
headed by
Graham Ducker, as Branch Manager,
was established to give new and emerging poets a venue
to share their poetry & readings, encourage one another
and see that they are not the 'only one' in Durham
Region as so many felt they were. So, a Poetry
Venue was established EAST of
Toronto! They have to progressed to poetry
contest, being published poets etc.

Through the art-form of oral storytelling Heather &
Kim interweave the cadence of their voices with melodies of

harp &, mandolin to tell a heartfelt tale of combined memories
reflecting on their roots and families. They will sweep you
across and through rhythmic waves of tradition, contemporary
life, and take you to your own special place of memory.

Heather is a versatile singer/songwriter &
storyteller who brings both traditional tales and her
own stories to life by interspersing the narrative with
rhyme, chant and song.
She performs in schools, in concert, and conducts
workshops throughout the GTA and beyond, for children
and adults. Her interactive Multicultural storytelling
and musical programs are popular with children and
families. Adult audiences delight in her unique
presentations of original contemporary, folk and blues
music with personal tales that are profound or humourous.
She especially enjoys performing her ‘Singin’ the Blues’
in story concert to ‘grown-up’ audiences where she
invites other musicians to join her.
She does Musical Story & Song Theatre shows for adults,
youth, and older children and presents adult Halloween
House Concerts with poet, storyteller James Broad. Her
Family Album: A Bit of This & That And a Snap, Clap,
Tap. A Collection of Stories and Songs (2 cd's) focuses
on literacy. I Eat Borscht, I Eat Kippers…is included in
Signatures, the Writer’s Circle of Durham Region’s first
anthology.
Although she has not won any concrete awards, she has
won the hearts of thousands of listeners in Canada and
the US through performances and regular sales of her
tunes through online emusic sites.

A musical troubadour Kim plays both the ancient Celtic
Harp traced over one thousand years as well as the Lyon
and Healy classical Harp. She performs period music
ranging from celtic to classical, early music to
renaissance and traditional to contemporary, combining
her talents on harp, and mandolin performance blending
her instruments and voice with song.
Kim appears solo as well as duo
with other performers in various productions within the
Greater Toronto Area and Ontario. She collaborates
“Musical Story and Song Theatre” with singer/songwriter
and storyteller Heather Whaley.
She has worked as a background
vocalist and mandolin musician for studio sessions at
Steve Sherman Productions, Toronto , Ont.
Kim played a principal role as an
actress/singer for the play called “The Elfin Knight”,
Cliffhanger Productions, and she orchestrated all the
vocals and harp music in this forty-five show production
at the historic Guild Inn Toronto Ont.
She writes monthly articles about
harp history for the “Folk Harp Society Journal” where
she is on the executive board, and publishes articles
and her own poetry in “Acoustic Café Magazine’.
She plays professionally for places
such as Ontario Renaissance Festivals, Durham Regional
Arts, Studio and Garden Tours, Toronto’s Casa Loma,
Royal Ontario Museum, Early Music Festival, Highland
Games, and other cultural events. |

Sharon Lawrence

Sharon Lawrence will
speak about the works of her husband,
R.D. Lawrence, field
biologist, journalist, naturalist and award
winning author. RD Lawrence wrote more than
30 books during more than 50 years observing
nature in Canada’s wilderness.
The Literary Estate of R.D. Lawrence was
donated to the Minden Hills Cultural Centre
in 2006.
In April 2007 construction began on a home
for this collection, R.D. Lawrence Place.

spoke about her husband, his life and his works,
at the HHWEN AGM on July 7, 2007.

Sharon Lawrence:
is a retired teacher, who attended the
University of
Guelph
and the Ontario College of Art. She taught
in Toronto and in the
Yukon Territory. She is a specialist in Early
Childhood Education, Household Science and The
Arts.
She married R.D. Lawrence in 1973. They bought a
large property in the
Haliburton
Highlands, and in 1984, after they had
rescued two wolf pups Tundar
and Taiga, their property Wolf Hollow became a
sanctuary and wildlife rehabilitation centre ,
where they raised and released hundreds of injured
and orphaned wildlife, including eleven wolves, a
cougar, foxes, raccoons, mink, beavers,
porcupines, skunks, and a plethora of other two
and four legged visitors.
Sharon and R.D. ran the
sanctuary together, and continued to research and
document the activities at Wolf Hollow.
Sharon also proof-read
, edited , illustrated and photographed for the
books and articles that R. D.
Lawrence wrote at that time.

Dorothea Helms, a.k.a. The Writing Fairy, is an
award-winning, internationally published writer who is
also a popular writing instructor. On May 28, 2005, she
was presented with the first-ever Barbara Novak Award
For Excellence in Humour and/or Personal Essay Writing
from the Periodical Writers Association of Canada. The
award was for her personal essay on teaching writing
that appeared in The Globe and Mail in
2003. In June, 2005, she tied for first place in the
non-fiction category of the Haliburton Highlands
Writers’ and Editors’ Network and The Agnes Jamieson
Gallery 3rd Annual Writing Contest.
Dorothea’s work has appeared in
publications such as The
Globe and Mail,
Homemakers,
Chatelaine, Scarlett, lichen
literary magazine,
Stitches the Journal of Medical
Humour, Popular Woodworking, Woodworker
and Big Buck. She was featured on CBC
Radio’s “First Person Singular” twice, and is
contributing editor for several Metroland special
sections in the Greater Toronto Area.
She is also working on
a best-selling novel that you’ll be sure to want to read
someday because you’ll be blown away by the ending. So
will she if she ever finishes the book. Dorothea owns
the communications firm Write Stuff Writing Services. In
2004 she started a second freelance business, The
Writing Fairy, which involves a series of books,
workshops and courses designed to coax closet writers to
emerge and make their magic known.
In
case you think she’s a flake, she graduated from the
University of Toronto in 1987 with a B.A. in Psychology,
and was nominated in 2001 for a Rotman Canadian Woman
Entrepreneur of the Year award. This Fairy knows how to

Tim Simms
Tim has been selling comics and graphic novels in Durham
Region for nearly 25
years. He has been reading comic books since 1962. He spends
considerable
time visiting schools and speaking to kids and parents about
comics & graphic
novels as a stepping stone to literacy and a unique and
expressive art form in its
own right. Through his store, Worlds Collide, Tim has been
supplying the Oshawa libraries with graphic novels for over 13
years. Tim has also spoken to numerous educators about the
value of comic books and graphic novels as literary aids in
the classroom. |

Brian Peters, Author
 |
Brian Peters is a local author from
Blackstock, Ontario, who has enjoyed the art of writing
for the past several years. Born into a Canadian military
family, His love of aviation led him to the Air Cadets where
he earned his glider pilot’s license and his passion for
flight took off. As a young adult, Brian began reading
high-speed novels by authors Tom Clancy, Stephen Coonts and
Craig Thomas who eventually became the inspiration for
launching Brian’s writing career.
Brian has had several short stories
published including the creative non-fiction account “Measure
of Family” by “Another Toronto Quarterly” and “The
Surveyor” published in
the February 2007 issue of “Career Choices”. Also, the
poignant short story “Saint Mary”, received an “Honorable
Mention” in a nation-wide writing contest.
Brian’s passion for writing and aviation
lead him to combine both into his first fictional novel called
“Hypersonic”. In Hypersonic, Brian builds plot,
character, and tension, right up to
the last page.
“Hypersonic” is now
available at Books Galore and Willow Books in Port Perry as
well as Blue Heron Books in Uxbridge. It can also be purchased
